Youth Empowerment Summit

"YES!"

Geneva, Switzerland

24 July - 10 August 2001

Special Invitation To Youth

The FETE d'EXCELLENCE is held each August in Geneva, Switzerland, concurrent with the United Nations' Sub-Commission for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, and the City of Geneva's own Fêtes de Genève, renowned for its magical, musical fireworks displays and colorful carnival. The special focus of the FETE d'EXCELLENCE 2001 is the double International Year of Volunteers and International Year for Dialogue Among Civilizations. The FETE d'EXCELLENCE schedule combines a UN/NGO Roundtable Series, privileged access to the famed Alabama Room to sign a World Peace Declaration, cultural and sports events, and civic service. At the heart of each FETE d'EXCELLENCE is the Youth Empowerment Summit "YES!"--a powerful opportunity for Youth.

After studying at the Youth Empowerment Academy Campus at the UCLA Graduate School of Education, or online with the Academic Dean, delegates arrive in Geneva on the 24th of July to begin their Youth Empowerment Summit sessions, draft "YES!" Resolutions to present later at their own FETE d'EXCELLENCE UN/NGO Series Roundtable with world leaders, attend key UN Working Group sessions, and to participate fully in FETE d'EXCELLENCE cultural events. "YES!" 2001delegate/candidates are being excepted now on-line. Subsequently, hard-copy Applications with academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a non-refundable one hundred dollar Application Fee should then be mailed to the Dean of Students at ASD, Inc., before May 1st. (See 'Opportunities'.)

Candidature and Training

Independent Schools, Unified School Districts, Colleges, and Universities are invited to register candidates for the 2001 Youth Empowerment Academy, "YES!" Delegates' Program. Candidates are juniors and seniors in high school as well as college/university students, including doctoral or post-doctoral scholars. Age exceptions are made as merited. There is also an audit option for those teachers or other professionals wanting to attend the FETE d'EXCELLENCE and Youth Empowerment Summit 2001 in Geneva. All "YES!" delegates/candidates combine the qualities of social commitment, academic achievement, and community service. Willie Mitchell, 24-years working with youth at-risk in the inner-city and President and CEO of A.S.D. Inc., and Wilda Spalding, nearly 30 years as head of UN/NGO delegations, plus some local educators have developed qualifying guidelines, curriculum, and guest faculty. Training encompasses academic course studies, a Special Studies research paper, protocol preparations, and field work. Formal sessions of the Academy begin on June 20th, at UCLA, with an "open house introduction" in Royce Hall with subsequent classes in Moore Hall, Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, with a series of eight 2-3 hour sessions followed by a 2-day USA Mini-Camp on July 2nd and 3rd prior to departure on the 23rd of July for Geneva. UN briefings, strategic meetings, Private Research, student study groups and workshops are held throughout the Geneva "YES!" 2001 sessions. The delegates draft and submit a Youth Resolution of the UN Commission on Human Rights as part of their course work.
